This 44-week triathlon training plan is specifically built for athletes aged 60 and older, aligning closely with the course terrain, weather, and pacing challenges you'll face in Maine.

✅ Swim Preparedness for River Currents
The swim course is fast due to the river's current, but it requires confidence in open-water navigation. Our plan features progressive, technique-driven swim workouts, helping you refine stroke efficiency, improve sighting, and adapt to varying conditions—essential for handling this point-to-point course.

🚴 Bike Training for Hilly Terrain
With over 3,000 feet of elevation gain on smooth roads through the Kennebec River Valley, the bike course demands steady endurance and climbing ability. The plan emphasizes low-intensity aerobic rides to safely build base fitness, complemented by interval workouts and strength training to support power output and muscular endurance.

🏃 Run Endurance with Transition Focus
The final 13.1-mile leg features rolling terrain ideal for a steady pace. Long brick sessions simulate the bike-to-run transition, preparing your legs to respond on race day. Pacing strategies and VO2 max intervals help maintain race pace in warm, mid-70s (°F) conditions.
