Half Distance Triathlon Shanghai Training Plan – Conquer Chongming Island with Confidence

Set on the serene, eco-rich Chongming Island just 90 minutes from downtown, the Half Distance Triathlon Shanghai delivers a unique race experience immersed in natural beauty. This fast, scenic course deserves a training plan that fully prepares you—physically, mentally, and strategically—for race day success.

That’s exactly what the 36-Week Half Distance Triathlon Intermediate Training Plan is built for.

🌱 Build Your Foundation (Weeks 1–12)
Every strong finish begins with a strong base. This plan starts with a 12-week endurance foundation designed to develop aerobic fitness, mobility, and triathlon-specific strength—no matter your starting point. You'll build durability while fine-tuning technique, especially in swimming, where early drills and video instruction help you adapt to the lake swim at Bright Tian Yuan.

💥 Train Smart. Train Strong. (Weeks 13–36)
As you enter the 24-week race-specific phase, you’ll start with 7 hours per week and progress to 12.5, with workouts designed to match the demands of Shanghai’s flat, fast course:

🏊‍♂️ Master steady pacing and efficient sighting for the 1.9 km lake swim
🚴‍♀️ Build sustained power and cadence control for the 90 km double-loop ride on Beiyan Highway
🏃‍♂️ Develop race-day endurance and pacing with tempo runs and brick sessions around a course like Bright Tian Yuan
