Plan Description

With its crystal-clear Caribbean swim, flat and fast coastal bike course, and a vibrant run through Cartagena’s colonial Old City, the Half Distance Triathlon Cartagena is both scenic and performance-driven. Our 6-Month Advanced Half Distance Triathlon Training Plan is expertly designed to prepare you for the specific demands of this race—but it requires a solid foundation before you begin.

👉 Base Requirement: This plan is built for experienced triathletes with at least 6–12 months of consistent training and the ability to handle 9.5 hours of training in week one. If you're not already comfortably training at this volume, we recommend building that base first before starting this advanced program.

✅ Swim-Specific Endurance for the Caribbean Waters
You'll prepare for the warm, calm bay of Bahía de las Ánimas with progressive open-water sessions, rolling start simulations, and aerobic swim sets to boost comfort and efficiency in 80°F (28°C) water.

✅ Flat-Course Power on the Bike
The 90 km fast and mostly flat bike course along the Vía al Mar demands high sustained power and sharp focus. You’ll build this with:

⚡ VO2 max intervals for headwinds and surges

🚴 Aerobic tempo sessions to maintain speed on flat terrain

🌬️ Simulation rides for coastal wind and pacing control

✅ Heat-Adaptive Running Through Cartagena’s Old City
With its two-loop run course, hot temps, and historic streets, you’ll need smart pacing and heat resilience. This plan develops:
