Ready to take on the scenic challenge of the Half Distance Triathlon in Santa Cruz? Whether you're drawn to the ocean swim around the Wharf, the rolling hills along Highway 1, or the dramatic finish on Cowell’s Beach, your success depends on more than just determination—it requires a training plan that prepares your body and mind for each leg of the course.

Our 44-Week Beginner Half Distance Triathlon Training Plan is specifically designed to match the terrain, conditions, and demands of the Santa Cruz race. 🌊🚴🏃

Starting with a 12-week base phase, you’ll build strength and foundational endurance without needing any prior training experience. We emphasize full-body conditioning and swim technique from day one, preparing you for the cool 63°F ocean waters and the technical turns around the Wharf.

Then, over 32 weeks of structured Half Distance Triathlon training, you’ll develop race-day fitness through progressive volume and intensity, starting at 9.5 hours of weekly training and peaking at 14 hours. This approach ensures you're ready for the 2,500+ feet of elevation on the bike and the sustained effort of the 13.1-mile run along the bluffs and cliffs of West Cliff Drive.
