Half Distance Galveston Triathlon Training Plan – 36 Weeks to Race Day Glory

Dreaming of conquering the Half Distance Galveston Triathlon? With its flat, fast terrain and beachside charm, Galveston is the ideal race to chase a personal best. But to truly shine on this PR-friendly course, you need a training plan built for success. Our 36-week beginner Half Distance training plan is designed specifically to prepare you—mind, body, and spirit—for the unique demands of Galveston’s race course.

Why This Plan Works for Galveston

The course at Galveston is tailor-made for speed:
✅ 1.2-mile saltwater swim in the calm, protected waters of Offats Bayou
✅ Flat 56-mile bike along the scenic Gulf Coast, crossing the San Luis Pass
✅ 13.1-mile, spectator-friendly run looped through Moody Gardens

To match this terrain, our program builds your engine strategically over time, starting with a 12-week foundation phase. You’ll develop essential aerobic fitness, core strength, and proper swim technique using guided video drills. Every session is RPE- or heart rate-based, so you'll train at the right intensity—even without prior endurance experience.

Then, over 24 weeks of race-specific training, you’ll progress through carefully calibrated volumes—from 7 to 12 hours per week—designed to maximize endurance while minimizing injury risk. Key features include:
