Everyone at some point hits a rut in their running; usually from a loss of motivation, injury, a setback in life that has running take a back seat, etc... However, we all know that running can be the most joyful and fulfilling part of our day. So, the goal of this plan, is to get back to that. IT will be very unstructured, allow you to pick and choose how you want to run your workouts and easy runs. Keep the stress low, and most importantly, allow you to fall back in love with the sport of running. Good luck!
A few logistics of the plan:
1. It will be a relatively low mileage plan and assumes that you are trying to get back into running after some sustained time off. We will start with ~3 ish run/walking days a week and build up to 5 running days by the end of the program with some workouts that you will have built up to over a good period of time.
2. It will allow for some freedom in a lot of the workouts, with suggestions and limits, but overall, this plan will let you dictate how hard/fast you want to attempt certain workouts. We want you to have a good experience, so when in doubt, do less and know that you can always attempt more the following week. HOWEVER, the program assumes you're going to progress throughout each week, so if you aren't you might not be ready for the following week. You can always repeat the week, to make sure your body is ready for the next week. BE CAUTIOUS.
3. By the end of the plan, you will be in pretty good shape again, and can either start a new plan or continue to do this type of training.
Hammer & Axe Training was born out of a vision shared by a handful of elite distance runners. We found in our training that we ran our best when we committed to training our speed and strength equally. A focus on strength made us durable, strong, and prepared for the adversity that racing brings. A focus on speed made us confident, efficient, and ready to move when the right moment arrived. We wanted to bring this feeling of speed and strength to as many runners as possible.
