Plan Description
This 6-week plan is designed for beginner runners looking to ease into running gradually while building a strong aerobic foundation. Workouts in the first week start at approximately 20 minutes, with optional walk breaks as needed. By the end of the plan, runners will complete a 35-minute continuous run as their longest session.
The focus is on easy Zone 2 runs (~VT1) to develop aerobic fitness, improve efficiency, and enhance resilience. The goal is to gently increase aerobic capacity without excessive fatigue, boost mitochondrial function for better energy production, and improve fat oxidation, making running more efficient.
To complement endurance development, the plan also incorporates neuromuscular activation through drills and strides, which help improve running economy, turnover, and coordination.
A key emphasis throughout this phase is gradual load progression to strengthen muscles, tendons, ligaments, and bones, reducing the risk of injury. This structured base phase lays the groundwork for safely transitioning into higher-intensity training in later cycles.
