Plan Description

Overview

Created for those who have less experience over the marathon distance. First time marathon runners and those looking to go from half to full marathon distance.


Is this plan for you?

This plan has been created for those new to the sport of running. It is also suitable for intermediate and advanced runners who may have less experience over the marathon distance.
A prerequisite of beginning this plan is being able to run three times a week as well as being able to run for 75 minutes consistently at a 7 min/km pace.

The plan requires commitment but can be completed easily around work and life’s demands. There are 5 sessions per week with a maximum of a 6 hour training week.

Plan Description

The plan begins with 3 runs, 2 strength and 4 days off per week. This increases to 3 runs, 2 strength and 3 days off per week.

The structure follows conventional 4 week training blocks with every 4th week being a recovery week. This is essential for your body to adapt to the training stimulus applied, resulting in better performance.

Sessions can be completed in mornings and evenings around work and longer sessions are planned for weekends.

The plan includes structured workouts that predominantly use heart rate as intensity. This ensures you can complete the plan according to your ability. In some sessions, heart rate is not the optimum measure of intensity, therefore some of the sessions use Rate of Perceived Exertion (RPE) and pace.

Guidance on testing to obtain your correct training zones is outlined in week 1.

Specific strength and conditioning for running is included. These sessions are structured strength sessions with video examples of the exercises.
