Who This Plan is Best For
This 12-week half marathon training plan is designed specifically for beginner runners taking on their first 13.1. It is ideal for athletes who:
- Are currently running 2-3 times per week and can comfortably complete a 3-mile run.
- Have limited or no experience with structured training but are ready to commit to a progressive plan.
- Want a clear, easy-to-follow roadmap to build fitness, confidence, and endurance to cross the half marathon finish line.
Whether your goal is simply to finish or to finish feeling strong, this plan guides you every step of the way.
What to Expect
- Gradual Progression: Manageable starting mileage that builds week to week, with long runs progressing from 6 to 12 miles and a cutback week every fourth week for recovery.
- Clear Guidance: Five runs per week with simple instructions - easy runs, strides, short tempo efforts in the later weeks, and a weekly long run. Every workout includes distance, time, and effort guidance in plain language.
- Self-Guided Plan: A self-paced program with detailed instructions for each workout, including pacing, effort zones, and rest days. Direct communication with a coach is not included, but the plan provides everything you need to succeed independently.
