Who This Plan is Best For
This 8-week 5K training plan is designed for newer runners taking on their first 5K (or their first structured training block). It is ideal for athletes who:
- Can currently jog or run/walk about 2 miles without stopping to recover.
- Want a gentle, clear progression that builds to running 3.1 miles with confidence.
- Have little or no experience with structured training.
Whether your goal is to finish your first 5K or to run the whole way without walking, this plan guides you every step of the way.
What to Expect
- Gradual Progression: Short, manageable runs that build week to week, with a longest run of 5 miles and a lighter week in the middle for recovery.
- Clear Guidance: Five short runs per week with simple instructions - easy runs, a few strides, and a weekly longer run. Every workout includes distance, time, and effort guidance in plain language.
- Self-Guided Plan: A self-paced program with detailed instructions for each workout. Direct communication with a coach is not included, but the plan provides everything you need to succeed independently.
Required Equipment
- A GPS watch or running app to track distance and time.
- Comfortable, properly fitted running shoes.
- Access to a safe place to run - sidewalks, trails, parks, or a treadmill.
