Training over 24 weeks means it is possible to start lighter and take a longer bit of time building basic aerobic fitness. This will be done by more lower intensity training in the first 12 weeks of the plan. There is also a block of training with some strength training performed through running hills and the possibility of adding in a couple of 5km running events during the programme. The real speed work then comes into second half of the programme in preparation for the big 5km at the end of the plan.
