Before starting:
This plan is designed for Advanced Runners with a solid base of running who have already raced the 10k distance or longer, but want to get the most out of their training and perform well in their next race. You should be able to comfortably run for one hour before starting this plan.  The weekly volume of the plan starts at 4:25 for the first week and peaks at 5:45.

Joan Scrivanich, an Exercise Physiologist and Coach with a Master’s Degree in Applied Exercise Physiology from the Ivy League institution Columbia University in New York City. She holds advanced coaching certifications including USA Track & Field Level 3 Endurance, USA Triathlon Level 2 Endurance, Ironman Certified Coach, and NSCA Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist. Joan has over 35 years of experience as an endurance athlete and 25 years as an exercise physiologist. She had the privilege of competing at a competitive division I college in both cross country and track. Her racing background spans a wide range; she has experience training & racing for everything from the Mile to the Marathon and Sprint Triathlons to the 140.6 distance, which has given her firsthand insight into the training and racing demands of endurance sports.
