15-Week Competitive Duathlon Training Plan: Program Description
Prepare to reach your peak with our 15-week Competitive Duathlon Training Plan, meticulously designed for motivated athletes with a solid background in cycling and running. This proven program has powered age-group podium finishes and even guided professional triathletes as they tackled duathlon racing.
This program could be down off of Heart Rate alone training, but ideally a power meter is required for the bike workouts.
Program Structure:
- Weeks 1–4: Endurance Build
- Begin with a progressive, low-intensity volume increase to establish a powerful aerobic foundation and adapt your body to consistent training.
- Focus is on easy-paced runs and rides to build stamina and resilience.
- Weeks 5–15: Test & Training Phase
- Starting from week 4, we add structured intensity:
- Lactate threshold sessions(on both bike and run) to increase your sustainable race pace.
- Moderate-effort aerobic runs to build leg strength and efficiency.
- VO2 max intervals and track workouts to target speed and power in both disciplines.
- This mix ensures the right balance between endurance, strength, and race-ready speed.
