Plan Description
This plan is best for athletes who are seeking to increase their Functional Threshold Power (FTP). It is designed to follow the completion of a base-phase (multiple preceding build-phase plans can be found here: https://www.trainingpeaks.com/coach/brianmusum)
The build phase of a cycling training plan is a focused period aimed at progressive and structured enhancement of an athlete's fitness and performance. During this phase, the training intensity and volume gradually increase to stimulate physiological adaptations, such as increased cardiovascular capacity, muscular endurance, and lactate threshold. Workouts often involve a combination of longer rides to build aerobic endurance, interval sessions to enhance anaerobic power, and strength training to improve muscular strength and stability. The build phase lays the foundation for peak performance by pushing the athlete's limits while allowing sufficient recovery periods to prevent overtraining and injury, ultimately leading to improved cycling performance in upcoming events or races.
