What does this plan do?
This plan is intended for use during an 8-week hill climb season. It's designed to strike a balance between maintaining and fine-tuning fitness and optimising performance on competition days. You will also be equipped with an improved knowledge of how to pace hill climb efforts, and opportunities to work on mental toughness while digging deep on a climb.
The plan assumes as a default that you will be racing both days at the weekend, but includes notes on what to do if/when this isn't the case. We also recommend taking a non-racing week at the mid-point of the plan, to allow a chance to recover and work more concertedly on your aerobic base fitness.
Who is this plan for?
This plan is specifically designed for athletes competing in a season of hill climb racing, where races typically last between 2-20 minutes. However, this plan would also be suitable for athletes training for slightly longer hill climb efforts.
As this plan follows a polarised intensity distribution, with training intensities that are tailored to your fitness level, this plan is suitable for athletes of a range of abilities, including masters athletes, provided you have completed at least 2 months of training with a volume of around 7-9H/week in the recent past.
