Plan Description
You're training at near-professional volumes — and at 17+ hours per week, the plan needs to be periodised as carefully as the work itself. Training stress accumulates fast at this load. Without the right structure, the result is accumulated fatigue, not peak performance. This plan is built for competitive cyclists who train at high volumes and want a polarised, periodised approach that handles the load correctly.
The training model is strictly polarised: a large base of genuine Zone 2 aerobic work supports recovery and aerobic development, with high-quality intervals at threshold, VO2max, and above driving the adaptations that matter for competition. Managing the balance between training stress and recovery is the primary challenge at this volume — the periodisation across base, build, peak, and taper phases is built around it. FTP is tested and zones are calibrated precisely from the start.
The plan is longer than most, because at this training load, doing periodisation properly is what separates a career-best from accumulated fatigue. Each session explains what it's doing physiologically. The structure is adaptable to your target events, and there's a progression ready for the next campaign.
