Plan Description
You train to compete and you're putting in the hours — but high volume without structure produces fatigue more reliably than it produces fitness. This plan is built for competitive cyclists who train at 13–16 hours a week and want a periodised, evidence-based route to peak performance.
Training follows strictly polarised periodisation: a high proportion of low-intensity aerobic volume builds base fitness and supports recovery, with targeted sessions at threshold, VO2max, and sprint intensities driving specific adaptations. Progressive overload is built into each training block, with base, build, peak, and taper phases structured so you arrive at race day in form. FTP is tested and zones are set precisely. The plan earns every hour it asks for.
It's longer than most — because full periodisation from base to taper is what peak performance actually requires, and compressing it doesn't work. Every session explains what it's targeting and why, so the plan builds your understanding of training alongside your fitness. The structure is adaptable to your race calendar, and there's a clear progression available when this one is done.
