Plan Description
You've been riding consistently but haven't trained with structure yet — and the difference is significant. Structured training means sessions with a specific purpose, intensities set from a real FTP test, and a plan that builds week by week with intent rather than just adding volume. This plan is designed for cyclists new to structured training with 9–12 hours per week to work with.
With that volume, there's enough time to build a genuine aerobic base properly. The majority of riding is low-intensity endurance work — developing the aerobic engine that every other quality is built on — with sweet spot and threshold sessions layered in progressively as the plan develops. Recovery weeks are programmed regularly throughout. The periodisation is built specifically for where a beginner cyclist is now, not a compressed version of an advanced plan.
The plan is longer than most — deliberately. That length lets the base develop at the right rate, and it means every session has room to explain the reasoning behind it. You'll understand what you're training and why, which is what makes the gains stick long-term. The structure is adaptable to real life, and when you complete it, there's a progression plan ready to build on what you've built.
