Flanders is not one climb. It is 247 kilometers of cobbles, wind, and short bergs collecting every early mistake
The organizer's current long-course framework runs 247 kilometers from Antwerp to Oudenaarde with about 2,100 meters of climbing, while the 163, 133, and 79 kilometer routes start and finish in Oudenaarde. Across the published options, the defining demands are repeated cobbled bergs, rough stone sectors, fast exposed roads between climbs, and the accumulated fatigue of accelerating into each short steep ramp. The current long route links classic bergs including the Muur-Kapelmuur, Koppenberg, Taaienberg, Oude Kwaremont, and Paterberg.
For the rider bringing eight focused weeks and seven to eleven hours a week, this plan concentrates the work most likely to matter at Tour of Flanders Sportive: ultra-distance durability, economical group speed, repeatable short-climb power, cobble handling, wet-weather composure, fueling, and late-race traction.

Hey, I'm Matti. I spent 11 years at TrainingPeaks, where they trusted me to teach coaches how to coach at TrainingPeaks University. I raced Amateur Elite with Rio Grande Cycling Team and podiumed my age group at Unbound 200 in 2026. I have a degree in biology and exercise physiology from St. Olaf. I'm also a middle-aged dad of three, so I know training doesn't happen in a vacuum. I help gravel riders get stupidly fast without becoming the person who brings a food scale to a party
