Albula opens the account; Splügen collects what is left
Both routes start and finish in Lantsch/Lenz, in the Lenzerheide region of Graubünden. The long course crosses the Albula Pass, the Upper Engadine and Maloja before descending through Bergell into Italy, then climbs the Splügen Pass and returns through Viamala. The Splügen Pass — 30.4 km and 1,842 m of continuous climbing from Chiavenna, 500 m more ascent than the Albula, arriving deep into the long route after the Engadine and Bergell have already taken their toll.
For the rider with only six weeks left and five to nine hours a week, this rescue plan sharpens sustained climbing, repeatable climbing power, descending confidence, and fatigue resistance around the fitness already in place without pretending to replace a full build.

Hey, I'm Matti. I spent 11 years at TrainingPeaks, where they trusted me to teach coaches how to coach at TrainingPeaks University. I raced Amateur Elite with Rio Grande Cycling Team and podiumed my age group at Unbound 200 in 2026. I have a degree in biology and exercise physiology from St. Olaf. I'm also a middle-aged dad of three, so I know training doesn't happen in a vacuum. I help gravel riders get stupidly fast without becoming the person who brings a food scale to a party
