The opening is fast enough to hide the 1,903 meters of climbing still ahead
GFNY Pérez Zeledón's inaugural competitive long route takes place Sunday, October 11, 2026 from Hotel del Sur. It covers 115.4 kilometers with 1,903 meters of climbing, opens on fast lowland roads, reaches several sustained climbs near Pacuar, and saves an eight-kilometer ascent from 617 to 965 meters for after kilometer 70 before the false-flat and descending return.
For the rider bringing eight focused weeks and seven to eleven hours a week, this Alpine-Fondo plan concentrates on patient early pacing, sustained climbing, heat-smart fueling, descending control, and enough late durability for the eight-kilometer ascent after kilometer 70.
INSIDE THE FINISHER PLAN — 7–11 HR/WK

Hey, I'm Matti. I spent 11 years at TrainingPeaks, where they trusted me to teach coaches how to coach at TrainingPeaks University. I raced Amateur Elite with Rio Grande Cycling Team and podiumed my age group at Unbound 200 in 2026. I have a degree in biology and exercise physiology from St. Olaf. I'm also a middle-aged dad of three, so I know training doesn't happen in a vacuum. I help gravel riders get stupidly fast without becoming the person who brings a food scale to a party
