Train for Hainan's opening coastal race without ignoring what comes next
Gran Fondo Hainan is a three-day program of separately entered qualifiers, not a confirmed cumulative stage race. This plan anchors its Race Day workout to Friday's 110.4-kilometer coastal race from Lingao to Danzhou/Yangpu with 557 meters of climbing. The guide also covers Saturday's optional 19.4-kilometer wind-exposed time trial and Sunday's optional 80.74-kilometer Wuzhishan course with 1,644 meters of climbing and a final 13.4 kilometers at 4.1 percent to Atuoling.
For the rider aiming to complete Gran Fondo Hainan strongly on seven to eleven hours a week, this twelve-week plan builds coastal bunch speed, wind and heat management, recovery, and optional late-weekend climbing for the opening coastal qualifier and optional Wuzhishan finale.

Hey, I'm Matti. I spent 11 years at TrainingPeaks, where they trusted me to teach coaches how to coach at TrainingPeaks University. I raced Amateur Elite with Rio Grande Cycling Team and podiumed my age group at Unbound 200 in 2026. I have a degree in biology and exercise physiology from St. Olaf. I'm also a middle-aged dad of three, so I know training doesn't happen in a vacuum. I help gravel riders get stupidly fast without becoming the person who brings a food scale to a party
