Medellín asks for the main climb before your legs have settled
UCI Gran Fondo Colombia starts in central Medellín at roughly 1,480 meters and climbs immediately, gaining about 1,045 meters through the opening 16 kilometers before reaching a 2,525-meter high point near kilometer 21. The 120-kilometer course then descends toward Rionegro, crosses flatter roads through Guarne and Bello, and uses a 17-kilometer descent before the final 13 flat kilometers back in the city.
For the rider with a full calendar and four to six hours a week, this twelve-week plan directs limited training time toward sustained high-altitude climbing, early restraint, descending confidence, and a fast finish, with one purposeful longer ride each week.

Hey, I'm Matti. I spent 11 years at TrainingPeaks, where they trusted me to teach coaches how to coach at TrainingPeaks University. I raced Amateur Elite with Rio Grande Cycling Team and podiumed my age group at Unbound 200 in 2026. I have a degree in biology and exercise physiology from St. Olaf. I'm also a middle-aged dad of three, so I know training doesn't happen in a vacuum. I help gravel riders get stupidly fast without becoming the person who brings a food scale to a party
