The opening climb is obvious; the two late Patagonian ramps are the trap
Gran Fondo Siete Lagos runs 110 paved kilometers from San MartÃn de los Andes to Villa La Angostura in the 2026 direction, with roughly 1,500 meters of climbing. A 15-kilometer opening ascent averages about 3.5 percent before long lakeside corridors, descents, and two late ramps of 1.9 kilometers at 7.2 percent and 1.2 kilometers at 6.5 percent. Patagonian spring can move from sun to rain, cold, and wind within one race day.
For the experienced rider training seven to eleven hours a week, this twelve-week plan balances a long opening climb, late punchy ramps, descending, variable weather, and fatigue resistance with deliberate recovery so fitness rises without carrying avoidable fatigue into Gran Fondo Siete Lagos.

Hey, I'm Matti. I spent 11 years at TrainingPeaks, where they trusted me to teach coaches how to coach at TrainingPeaks University. I raced Amateur Elite with Rio Grande Cycling Team and podiumed my age group at Unbound 200 in 2026. I have a degree in biology and exercise physiology from St. Olaf. I'm also a middle-aged dad of three, so I know training doesn't happen in a vacuum. I help gravel riders get stupidly fast without becoming the person who brings a food scale to a party
