The Ponce heat makes a gradual fifteen-kilometer climb feel much less gradual
GFNY Puerto Rico returns to Ponce on Sunday, March 7, 2027. The current competitive long course covers 115.3 kilometers with approximately 556 meters of climbing, starts and finishes at Hilton Ponce, and pairs fast coastal roads with a gradual fifteen-kilometer climb where heat management and steady fueling matter as much as raw power.
For the rider chasing the age-group standings on nine to thirteen hours a week, this twelve-week Rolling-Fast plan develops raceable aerobic speed, heat acclimation, hydration, and controlled power through the fifteen-kilometer climb, not just enough fitness to reach the finish.
INSIDE THE COMPETE PLAN — 9–13 HR/WK
Includes zone-tailored structured rides for your devices, built-in strength with video walkthroughs, heat-training protocols for racing in the hot stuff, peloton skills workouts, and nutrition and hydration guidance.

Hey, I'm Matti. I spent 11 years at TrainingPeaks, where they trusted me to teach coaches how to coach at TrainingPeaks University. I raced Amateur Elite with Rio Grande Cycling Team and podiumed my age group at Unbound 200 in 2026. I have a degree in biology and exercise physiology from St. Olaf. I'm also a middle-aged dad of three, so I know training doesn't happen in a vacuum. I help gravel riders get stupidly fast without becoming the person who brings a food scale to a party
