Half white roads, all vintage
L'Eroica's flagship L'Eroico route leaves Gaiole in Chianti before dawn for 210.9 kilometers, 3,873 meters of climbing, and 104.3 kilometers of Tuscan white roads. The event is noncompetitive, but the day is not gentle: riders must manage relentless rolling terrain, darkness, long hours, and pre-1987-style equipment with friction shifting, toe clips, and rim brakes.
For the rider bringing eight focused weeks and seven to eleven hours a week, this plan concentrates on durable all-day endurance, repeated climbing, white-road control, and steady fueling for a route that can keep the vintage bike moving from the pre-dawn start into the evening.

Hey, I'm Matti. I spent 11 years at TrainingPeaks, where they trusted me to teach coaches how to coach at TrainingPeaks University. I raced Amateur Elite with Rio Grande Cycling Team and podiumed my age group at Unbound 200 in 2026. I have a degree in biology and exercise physiology from St. Olaf. I'm also a middle-aged dad of three, so I know training doesn't happen in a vacuum. I help gravel riders get stupidly fast without becoming the person who brings a food scale to a party
