Plan Description

14-Week Road Base Plan: Build Aerobic Foundation Before the Hard Work Starts

For road riders building or rebuilding an aerobic base before a harder training block or event season. Three to four sessions per week, almost entirely Zone 2, with cadence work integrated throughout to build pedaling efficiency. Two VO2 sessions appear late in the plan — weeks 11 and 13 — to prime the aerobic system before the next phase. The long ride builds steadily from 60 minutes to 2 hours. No threshold work, no anaerobic work, no shortcuts. A heart rate monitor is sufficient; a power meter helps but is not required.
