Plan Description

This 20-week LEJOG/JOGLE plan is built to prepare you for the reality of 1,000+ miles over 14 days: long Z1–Z2 days, stacked back-to-back, with real-world terrain, weather, and fatigue. The focus isn’t on peak power or big hero sessions; it’s on durability — turning steady, repeatable output into your default setting.

Training is structured in clear phases. Early weeks build aerobic base and saddle time, getting you comfortable with 2–3 hour rides and simple tempo work. The middle of the plan then introduces longer endurance rides, sweetspot and hill strength, and progressively bigger weekends to grow your fatigue resistance. Later phases add true LEJOG simulations with multi-day blocks of long rides, so you can practise pacing, fuelling, comfort, and logistics under realistic stress. The final weeks reduce volume while keeping your legs sharp, so you hit the start line rested, not rusty.

Every session is built with clear structure and effort targets using SPC bike zones (Z1–Z4), so you can pace sessions indoors via power, or outdoors via feel and heart rate. You’ll practise holding sustainable Z2 for hours, dropping in controlled tempo and sweetspot where it actually helps, and crucially, learning to keep something in reserve — the same mindset you’ll need on Day 9 when your brain wants to cash everything in on a climb.

By the end of the 20 weeks, you won’t just be able to ride long once. You’ll have rehearsed how to ride long, fuel smart, and manage yourself across repeated long days, with a plan that respects your recovery and steadily builds your robustness.
