Plan Description
Gravel Race Plan (2–3 Hour Event)
This training plan is built specifically for the demands of a 2–3 hour gravel race — where sustained aerobic power, strength on rolling terrain, and repeatable climbing efforts matter most.
Gravel racing in this duration is rarely steady. You’ll face:
• Long stretches at upper endurance and tempo
• Repeated surges over steep pitches
• Extended time near or at threshold
• Variable terrain that forces changes in cadence and torque
• Periods of solo riding where pacing discipline is critical
This plan focuses on:
1. Aerobic Durability
Building the ability to hold strong power deep into hour two and three.
2. Sweet Spot & Threshold Strength
Developing comfort and control in the 85–100% FTP range — the “bread and butter” of gravel intensity.
3. Torque & Climbing Specificity
Low-cadence work to simulate steep grades and limited gearing.
4. Anaerobic Sharpening
Short, controlled high-power efforts to stay responsive over punchy climbs and race surges.
5. Fueling & Execution Practice
Key workouts rehearse race-day nutrition, pacing, and mental focus — so nothing feels new on event day.
