Preparing for a 3-day stage event?
This plan is designed for advanced cyclists preparing for three consecutive days of demanding road riding or racing.
A stage event requires more than strong single-day fitness. You need deep aerobic endurance, high sustainable power, excellent fatigue resistance, smart pacing and the ability to recover well enough to perform again the following day.
This plan develops those qualities progressively so that you arrive prepared not just for day one, but for the accumulated fatigue of the full event.
Who this plan is for
This version is best suited to experienced riders who are already training consistently and are comfortable averaging more than around 750 TSS per week.
This is a demanding plan intended for cyclists with a substantial endurance base. If your recent training load is significantly lower, use one of the lower-volume versions first rather than making a sudden jump in training.
What the plan includes
- Progressive endurance work developing multi-day fatigue resistance
- Focused sessions building high sustainable power and aerobic fitness
- Higher-intensity work supporting competitive stage-event performance
- Back-to-back training preparing you for consecutive hard days
- Core and strength work
- Regular recovery to support adaptation
The final training block is designed to mimic a 3-day event. Where possible, match the duration and profile of these rides to your target event while respecting the intended training load.
You can follow the plan using power, heart rate or perceived exertion, although power is strongly recommended at this level.
Many sessions use TrainingPeaks structured workouts with power, heart rate and cadence targets where appropriate.
A note about this Classic Plan
This is one of my Classic TrainingPeaks plans. The training itself remains fully usable, but some older external links or legacy TrainingPeaks features may no longer be available.
An updated guide is included at the beginning of the plan with current resources and additional information.
Want the plan adapted around you?
A pre-built plan is a great option if you're comfortable managing your own training.
But no generic plan can know your exact fitness, available time, recovery, event schedule, strengths, weaknesses or how you're responding from week to week.
If you'd like me to build and continually adapt your training personally, you can upgrade to 1:1 coaching.
TrainingPeaks plan customers receive an exclusive coaching upgrade offer.
You'll find details and a link to book a free consultation at the start of the plan.
Build the endurance, recover well — and arrive ready for all three days.
