About The Junior MTB In-Season Training Plan


This plan is a flexible plan that incorporates skills, intensity, strength, and volume appropriate for under 18 year old athletes looking to follow a plan during their race or 'summer' season.

The athlete should add team sports, school sports and lots of active unstructured play on top of this structure, and in some cases in place of the structure. Guidance for these substitutions (called 'OR' workouts) is given in the plan.



Is This Junior Mountain Bike Training Plan For You?

This plan is designed for a younger athlete. The plan can be used for any 3-month period and is usually used for May/June thru summer (when races are) but it is your choice and could even be used back to back for 6 months, depending on how your races fall.

The plan is Heart Rate and RPE(Feeling) oriented but does include power structured workouts at times. FEELING and Heart rate are important concepts for juniors to learn and develop to carry them through their career on their own individual progression and to guide their racing performance.


What Does this Junior MTB Training Plan Include?



  • Guidance and 'notes' on nutrition, strength and volume.

  • Structured Workout Downloads are included for *many but not all* bike workouts ( for Garmin / Zwift Etc )

  • Many Workouts that can be done indoors if desired/required

  • Core routine and 1-2 weekly yoga sessions are provided and encouraged throughout the plan

  • Workout Description with HR, Power and/or RPE - Flexible to your equipment and preferences

  • Guidance and Options to shorten or extend workouts based on goals and availability
