This plan is designed for a rider who needs a final tune-up and prep for the True Grit MTB Epic. This is for an experienced rider who needs a short ramp into the race, as well as a calculated taper. This is a fairly advanced program and should only by completed by riders with several years of endurance training. If you are unsure about your current fitness, please purchase the semi-customized version so we can have a chat about whether you are ready for this and how to adapt for your needs.
You will need a power meter to follow this program. The workouts include power-based workout programming for all structured rides. It includes an FTP test on Day 1 and instructions for how to determine and update your FTP in TrainingPeaks.
This program is designed around a Monday rest day. If that works for your schedule, start Day 1 on a Monday. If you would like a Sunday rest day, start the plan on a Sunday. This plan includes five days of training per week. If you would like six days of training, add an easy recovery spin on one of the scheduled days off. If you would like four days of training, add a day off on the scheduled recovery ride day.
This plan is designed to be executed primarily indoors, assuming you are training primarily in a winter climate. Each week includes a couple days with outdoor and trainer options (with the expectation that you may be able to swap for outside rides on the weekend). These days will likely fall on Saturday/Sunday or Friday/Saturday, depending on whether you choose to apply rest days on Monday or Sunday. Note that on these days with two workouts, you have an option, either/or, not both.
This plan is semi-customized by including a 30 minute phone call with Coach Sarah to customize for your personal fitness, schedule, set-up, goals, and situation. We can also use this time to tailor your race execution plan. It also includes the option for a monthly call to further customize. All KCC training plans come with a comprehensive document of best practices and guidelines. You will find this doc attached in your first day of training.
As a coach, it’s my job to make you fast. But it’s my mission to make you the very best athlete you can be. I provide the structure – the analytics, the feedback, the roadmap. And we dig in together to see what unique path is right for you, based on your physiological tendencies, your training data, your sensations, and your goals.
We work in a partnership. And this partnership allows athlete and coach to be greater than the sum of our parts. What matters is that we connect.
