Plan Description
MTB is a dynamic discipline of cycling and at the racing end can be high intensity. However to be at your best you need to work on the basics. These been aerobic fitness, strength endurance and skills.
This plan is aimed at MTB riders looking to increase their cycling ability in order to take on an MTB event, be it a personal challenge, an XC. marathon or enduro race .event
Aim of the plan
-Increase aerobic or base fitness
-Raise Functional Threshold Power (FTP)
-Develop MTB skills
-Increase muscle endurance
The 8 week plan is aimed at intermediate riders and is based on 6hrs of training per week
The plan is based on a Mon-Fri working week, but can be adapted to fit a more random schedule
The plan uses power/hr training zones and is based on the Andy Coogan threshold based 7 zone system
It presumes that the rider has been riding regularly for at least two year and has completed a ride of at least 3hrs in recent months
The plan presumes that you have no current injury or health issues, if in doubt then please consult a doctor
Remember, training is all about consistency
You will miss the occasional session or the weather will be awful
This is not a big deal, bounce back next and make the overall week a good one!
