8-WEEK MASTERS 50 PLUS CYCLING TRAINING PLAN
Preserve your high end power and keep racing strong through your fifties. This 8-week plan is built for the still competitive masters cyclist who wants to hold onto threshold and VO2max quality while giving the older body the recovery it now needs to absorb hard work. Indoor and Zwift compatible, 7 to 8 hours a week.
WHO IT IS FOR
Competitive and enthusiast masters riders aged roughly 50 and over who still want sharp top end power, race relevant threshold, and the durability to hold it late in a ride, without the burnout that comes from training like a twenty year old. Ideal paired with the Evolve Off-Bike Strength for Cyclists plan to protect muscle and bone.
HOW IT PROGRESSES
Eight weeks flow from Reawaken and Polarise into Sharpen, a recovery week, then a big three week build to Peak Load, closing with a taper and a retest. Threshold, sweet spot and short VO2 work are all present but always surrounded by generous recovery, and never two hard days back to back.
WHAT MAKES IT DIFFERENT
Every session is evidence led and distinct, with a plain English coaching description and one verified scientific reference. The design deliberately builds in more recovery than a younger plan, uses short intervals to defend the aerobic ceiling with less strain, and threads low cadence torque work throughout to reinforce the strength theme that keeps masters riders powerful.
WHAT TO EXPECT EACH WEEK
Two quality sessions, protected easy days, one long endurance ride, and a strength focused ride, with an FTP test on day one and again on the final day so you can measure the power you have built. Weekly hours land between 7 and 8, dropping in the recovery and taper weeks.
