8-Week Tempo — Sustained Power on 7 to 8 hrs/week
Lift your FTP and build the muscular endurance to hold a hard pace for longer, on a realistic 7 to 9 hours a week. This tempo and sweet spot plan is built for the time-conscious rider who still wants serious structure, and it is fully Zwift and indoor compatible.
Over eight weeks the quality sessions stay fresh and varied, with no two workouts sharing the same structure. You will ride sweet spot over-unders, ladders, criss-crosses and pyramids alongside tempo accelerations, kickers and torque work, with cadence changes and surges built in so training never becomes a stare at a single power number. Your weekend long ride carries tempo embedded inside steady aerobic riding, while the easier days roll in gentle "waves of watts" endurance that keep the aerobic base growing without ever going flat.
The plan follows a proven 3 to 1 build-to-recovery rhythm, easing back in Week 4 so you absorb the work, then ramping again toward a peak week. Time in the sweet spot zone climbs steadily across the block before a Week 8 taper leads into a Tempo Benchmark ride, so you can measure exactly how much stronger you have become.
Every workout is fully built with target power and cadence, and comes with a detailed description covering what it does, how it should feel, how to pace it, what success looks like, the science behind it and the mindset to bring, plus fuelling guidance on the longer rides.
Sweet spot at 88 to 94 percent FTP is the sweet balance of intensity and volume: hard enough to force adaptation, repeatable enough to fit into a busy week. Put in the work here and you will finish with a bigger engine, a higher FTP and the durability to use it.
