Marys Mayhem on four to six hours a week.
Marys Mayhem is a two-day gravel weekend out of Mudgee, New South Wales — about 100 kilometres on the Saturday long course, roughly 3,600 feet of rolling climbing on fast, mostly unpaved gold-country backroads, and a second day out of Rylstone. Spring mornings start cold and foggy, and the fast gravel rewards rhythm and staying power more than climbing strength. This is an eight-week plan for that course, built around four to six hours a week. Limited hours hold up when nothing is wasted: steady work that builds the rhythm the surface rewards, strength for the corrugated stretches, and one longer ride most weeks so the distance feels ordinary.

Hey, I'm Matti. I spent 11 years at TrainingPeaks, where they trusted me to teach coaches how to coach at TrainingPeaks University. I raced Amateur Elite with Rio Grande Cycling Team and podiumed my age group at Unbound 200 in 2026. I have a degree in biology and exercise physiology from St. Olaf. I'm also a middle-aged dad of three, so I know training doesn't happen in a vacuum. I help gravel riders get stupidly fast without becoming the person who brings a food scale to a party
