Mammoth Tuff is 100 miles with about 7,500 feet of climbing on smooth, fast gravel and pavement, run entirely near 8,000 feet where the air is thin the whole way. Expect a wide temperature range and strong high-altitude sun.
This is a six-week plan for when the entry is paid and the weeks are short. Six weeks isn’t enough to build a hundred-mile base from scratch, but it’s enough to sharpen the fitness you have and get you to the start with a plan for the distance and the thin air, which the race demands and no plan can hand you.
100 MI · 7,500 FT CLIMBING · ~8.1K FT ALTITUDE · 6 WEEKS · 5–9 HR/WK · SAVE MY RACE

Hey, I'm Matti. I spent 11 years at TrainingPeaks, where they trusted me to teach coaches how to coach at TrainingPeaks University. I raced Amateur Elite with Rio Grande Cycling Team and podiumed my age group at Unbound 200 in 2026. I have a degree in biology and exercise physiology from St. Olaf. I'm also a middle-aged dad of three, so I know training doesn't happen in a vacuum. I help gravel riders get stupidly fast without becoming the person who brings a food scale to a party
