16-Week Cyclocross Season Plan
Build toward a late-season cyclocross goal with a progressive mix of endurance riding, cyclocross skills, short running sessions, and race-specific preparation.
Who This Plan Is For
- Beginner cyclocross racers
- Road or mountain bike riders transitioning to cyclocross
- Athletes who train by heart rate or perceived exertion
- Riders able to commit about 8.5 hours per week on average
Training Commitment
- About 7 hours 36 minutes of cycling per week on average
- About 56 minutes of running per week on average
- A longest ride of approximately two hours
- Peak training weeks of about 10 total hours
What You Will Develop
- Aerobic endurance and fatigue resistance
- Cyclocross handling and race skills
- Running tolerance for dismounts, barriers, mud, and sand
- Race-specific intensity and late-season readiness
- A practical taper into your goal event
A cyclocross bike is recommended, although road endurance sessions may be completed on a road bike. All cycling sessions can be completed on a cyclocross bike. Start the plan 16 weeks before your goal race.
