Another day of climbing showed the mettle of some of the GC contenders, while several riders began to shine during a windy and tough day of racing. In the end, Irishman Dan Martin (UAD) would claim his first victory of this year’s Tour, becoming one of only three countrymen to have claimed two or more wins at the Tour de France. Pierre Latour (ALM) finished a second behind, followed by Alejandro Valverde (Movistar) to round out the podium.

Mitchelton Scott’s Jack Bauer made quite the impression today after starting a breakout solo seemingly from nowhere with about 15 kilometers left in the race. He was able to hold on for the 3-second bonification sprint, before finally being caught by the peloton during the final climb with about 4 kilometers left in the race.
