Tour de France 2018

Stage 4 Overview

La Baule to Sarzeau

Tuesday, July 10, 2018

Stage Summary

Stage 4 between Sarzeau and La Baule could be the first time we see the sprinters really show their colors, with a rolling course profile sheltered mostly from the winds off the coast. An intermediate sprint at km 97.8 lands about halfway between the start and the finish at 195.5 km, leaving plenty of time for some fireworks.

Today’s stage was a relatively uneventful one until the last 5 kilometers, where a large crash involving much of the peloton helped shape the final sprint into Sarzeau. In the end, it was a close match between Peter Sagan (Bora-Hansgrohe), Andre Greipel (Lotto-Soudal) and Quick-Step Floors’ Fernando Gaviria. In the end, the young Colombian would edge out Sagan and Greipel for the second win of his auspicious Tour debut.
