About Sophia Laukli
Sophia Laukli is a dual sport athlete competing in both cross country skiing and trail running. She is a member of the US Ski Team and pro runner for Salomon. While Sophia grew up in the US, spending most of her time in Maine, she is half-Norwegian and thus started cross country skiing when she was just two years old. This made skiing the focus through her childhood and all the way thru college. After competing on the NCAA circuit at the University of Utah, Sophia transitioned into the trail running world in 2022, and then began to combine the two sports. Now, Sophia is competing on the World Cup circuit for skiing and focusing on short trail races and the marathon distance in trail running.
At age 25, her career highlights in skiing thus far are competing at the 2022 Olympic Games in Beijing, becoming NCAA Champion in 2022, and having her first World Cup victory in 2024. In her running career so far, she has won the overall Golden Trail Series in 2023, with individual victories at Sierre-Zinal and Marathon du Mont Blanc. Sophia is now living in Norway, training full time for both running and skiing. Looking ahead, her focus will be races like OCC, Sierre-Zinal, Broken Arrow, and other races around the 40-50km distance. Skiing will continue on the World Cup circuit, with emphasis on the World Championships in 2027 and 2029, as well as the Olympics again in 2030.
After some recent time off from competition, the 2026 race calendar is still a bit uncertain. Her main goals for the time being are learning how to better manage the two sports at the elite level, and how to navigate the load of competing all year round, in two separate sports. Then she is looking forward to toeing the start line again in the coming months.
