Wellington , New Zealand
I live in Wellington NZ & have coached triathlon since retiring from Elite ITU World Cup racing in 2000.
As a triathlete I reached the highest levels including winning the Elite ITU World Long Distance Champs (Nice) and winning the Elite ITU World Series Title. In total I won 4 World Cup events. I spent the majority of my time either at my club base in Paris or Christchurch, NZ.
I've a passion for people and movement & judge my success by the holistic health of my athletes. Ka Kite ano.
I completed my first tri in 1986 in Dunedin NZ - swim-bike-kayak-run! Fell in love with it and have not looked back. I spent 10 years racing the ITU Elite level events. along with a very colourful tri career whilst being based in Paris, France.
I started coaching as a teenager in our local swim club and continued academically in the sport field - Physed Degree and then Masters in Sport Coaching. I love biomechanics and coach in a style in which athletes are taught not only how, but why, they move in movement patterns.
I coach full time and love it! Long days but time well spent. Team Traction is the name of my training group. We are a hotch-potch of ages and abilities! We thrive on our differences. Yes I have a few super snappy athletes who have the ability to go all the way and they get as much ribbing as everyone else.
I set myself & my athletes high expectations but keep them achievable. My main goal as a coach is to have my athletes enjoy life through shared training and competition experiences. Simple. Life is about people, friendship and laughs. If we can do this honestly we all profit and do some awesome things in the process. Sport is not everything but is a vehicle to lots of fun adventures - what else can you hope for!?
