Douglas Eames   Tokyo Cycling Coach

I am a USA Cycling Level 2 coach.
Located in Tokyo, Japan, I offer one-on-one coaching, online coaching and group coaching to novice, amateur and professional cyclists and triathletes. Using evidence-based sports science, technology, and practical experience I can coach you to improve your cycling performance.

I am originally from the northeastern United States and started working in a bicycle shop part time as a junior mechanic after entering high school, and moved up to the position of head mechanic prior to graduating high school. I started competitive cycling in the junior categories from the age of 14 in both USCF(now USA Cycling) and citizen races. As a junior rider, I competed in the Mt. Washington Hill Climb twice and was on the podium in my second attempt. After turning 18 and moving up to USCF Cat 4, I collected enough points for a Cat 3 upgrade by the end of the season.

After entering university my competitive cycling activities took a hiatus until 2009 while living in Tokyo. Upon restarting cycling I worked with a professional coach and realized how quickly I improved, compared to my (in retrospect) disorganized training "plan" that I followed during high school.

My technical degrees in engineering have given me a very analytical approach to training and coaching. My professional background as a counselor and career/life coach gives me great satisfaction from working 1-on-1 with clients. I decided to combine my educational and professional background with my passion for cycling and obtained my USA Cycling Level 2 coaching certification in 2012.

For the 2014-2016 racing seasons I have been working with the NeilPryde - Nanshin Subaru Professional Cycling Team participating in the Japan Pro Tour and Japan Feminine Tour.
