Coach Bio

I am Martijn Wolbert, a 33 year old running coach from the Netherlands. I am focussing on runners who want to become better. I work goal driven, giving you the tools you need to set up reachable but chalenging goals together with the process towards reaching them. I love long term relationships as after a year or long we can see how the training programm is working out.

I'm a coach since 2024. I have got a licence at the dutch athletics federation in:

  • Base running trainer (level 3)
  • Performance coach (level 4)
Working towards a stryd coaching membership. Running with power is the next big thing as for running in the wind or on the hills it's the only way to measure the effort you make.
Most athletes don't have a stride, for them I use speed together with heart rate as a guide throughout the workouts.
A guided test for aerobic/anaerobic threshold is a good way to start of training, so it's easier to see what you're doing.
I have worked with runners setting goals of running faster than 1 hour on the 10k as a runner who ran a sub 1:10 half marathon.
The base is the most important thing as a runner: building the pyramid from below (a lot of base work with work till threshold effort).
There are always some dashes of short intervals of slightly faster than threshold in it to support the anaerobic system.
Furthermore strides (hill sprints) are in the program for both pure speed and running economy/efficiency.
From that base we'll work towards more intervals or reps in the speed you need for your race, which is ofcourse different for a 5k runner compared to a marathonner.
Besides running I highly recommend strength work which I prescribe as well. If you like cross training/cycling, there is room for that as well in a varied training schedule.
Most important: how is our click? please reach out I'd be happy to make time to meet!
