I specialize in performance running. Whether seeking your first Boston Qualifier, or looking to improve your Run Disney performance using the Galloway method, I specialize in helping runners perform at a higher level while seeking their own personal excellence. As a foundation, I prefer to use Hansons Method, scaled to goal distance, periodized in line with Lydiard, with Wetmore and Warhurst speed/strength components. I have coached new runners through Galloway, and Daniels as well.
Hello, I’m James Young. I am a certified United States Track & Field endurance coach. I believe that we can all achieve so much more than we know that we can, as long as we are willing to work for it. Moreover, I believe in everyone that is willing to take on the challenge of running. It isn’t an easy sport, and it is not for everyone. Yet for those who know that skinned knees heal, cramps fade and mud washes away, there is no more rewarding sport.
Endurance training has to be built around the individual, and is often best served by blending elements of multiple training philosophies together with a sound base in physiology and biomechanics. For me, it is always assess first, identify strengths and weaknesses of the individual, and then build a model that trains up weaknesses while turning strengths into true physical weapons. Whether one of my elite runners, or someone new to the sport, for me it will always be about the individual and what works best for them, their life, their goals, and who they are inside.
As a coach, you will find that I am completely invested, because there is no greater joy than helping runners achieve. You will find that I am highly driven and exceedingly studious. Almost two-decades of coaching have taught me that true “best-practice” is balance and blending. Science and emotion. Pressure and care. Endurance and speed. Mind and heart. Body and soul.
