I’m an ultra-distance cycling coach and athlete. I provide human-centred coaching for riders tackling ultras, stage races, or long-term cycling goals. From The Munga and BikingMan to Cape Epic and Gravel Burn, I build practical training around the individual, using data to inform coaching rather than define the athlete.
Cycling has been part of my life since 1995. I’ve raced across road, MTB and ultra-endurance disciplines, been coached, worked alongside other coaches, and spent years learning what it takes to prepare for events where fitness is only part of the challenge.

Alongside leading RIDEANDRACE, I work as an Associate Coach at Bike2Max in Cape Town, working with riders individually and combining training data, rider feedback and observation to make practical decisions about training.

My own experience has shaped how I coach. My first attempt at The Munga ended after getting lost in the Karoo and discovering how unprepared I was for the mental demands of ultra-distance racing. I returned in 2016 with greater focus, holding 3rd place late in the race before a navigation error saw me finish 7th. Those experiences taught me that good preparation is about more than fitness. It has to account for the person, their circumstances, the demands of the event, and what can happen when things don't go to plan.
--
That is central to my coaching philosophy: I coach people first and athletes second. Training should support your life, not compete with it. Every programme is built around the individual, sometimes structured, sometimes flexible, but always intentional.

My experience includes 12 and 24 hour solo road and MTB racing, self-supported and semi-supported ultra-endurance racing, and national elite single and multi-day stage racing. I am a UCI Level One Certified Coach.
