At RED my aim is to ensure you enjoy your cycling and progress, whatever level you are at. I achieve this by only working with a handful of clients in a highly personal way, concentrating on the person not just the numbers. All athletes are personality tested at the outset so I have a thorough understanding of what makes you tick, how you like to receive information, motivation, praise and mentoring. Everyone is different and it would be a mistake to treat all athletes the same.
My cycling journey started 45 years ago at the age of 12 taking me through club life, competition and various challenges. Ive experienced criteriums, hill climbs, time trials, road racing, cyclocross, mountain biking, gravel riding and flagship challenge sportives.
I was lucky enough to be coached and mentored from the age of 13; My coach took someone from a none cycling family under his wing and taught me self discipline, self respect, hard work and most importantly enjoyment of and a passion for cycling. These skills took me through a demanding career, always allowing me to keep balance in my life whilst remaining fit and healthy.
It is widely acknowledged that the very best coaches aren't necessarily always former elite athletes themselves, specific coaching, mentoring and people skills get the best out of athletes. Effective long term coaching is about listening, empathising, mentoring, encouraging and delivery of success in whatever form that may take.
As well as being a Level 3 qualified cycling coach, as part of my career I have undertaken specialist mentoring/coaching training and have a thorough appreciation of personality assessments and personality types, understanding how to get the very best out of people.
I hold a current DBS Criminal Records Check basic certificate and am Rescue Emergency Care Outdoor First Aid 16 hour qualified.
