Jon Baker, Ph.D   PALMARES

Jon is an exercise physiologist with four years' experience coaching professional cyclists in the UCI World Tour. At PALMARES, we have helped athletes of all abilities achieve their goals by utilising the latest scientific knowledge and practical training methods.

Our training plans are intelligently designed, with shorter sessions mid-week and longer endurance work on the weekend. Providing the structure and consistency to improve, as well as time for friends, family and your career.

Bio

ATHLETIC EXPERIENCE: Ex-Elite level MTB racer, with road and time-trial experience. Life-long athlete, training with power 5-6 days a week. Occasional runner, and functional strength training convert.
EDUCATION: 1st class degree in Sport and Exercise Science // Ph.D in Exercise Physiology. Particularly interested in the mechanisms of fatigue, and mathematical modelling of performance.
COACHING PHILOSOPHY: Despite an extensive scientific background, I am a strong believer that training should be simple and focused on the individual and performance goals. The basics need to be correct first: Training, Nutrition, Recovery, before looking for marginal gains. Finally, this is a human sport, and so understanding the athlete and fitting with their needs is paramount to success.
COACHING EXPERIENCE: Four years' working with Team Dimension Data, coaching athletes to win National Championships, stages at all three Grand Tours, wear the leader’s yellow jersey at the Tour de France, and compete at the numerous World Championships and the Olympic Games!
COACHING QUALIFICATIONS: British Cycling Level 2 // Training Peaks Level 1 coach (TPU complete for Level 2) // NSPCC child protection in sport // UK Anti-Doping Accredited Advisor // First aid.
