I am passionate about sport and coaching people to be their best! I grew up in South Africa where endurance sports are hugely popular. Watching my parents and grandmother excel as ultra-runners, I developed a love for endurance sport at a young age. An avid triathlete myself, I have completed 10 Ironmans® and many half-iron distance races. I have been coaching athletes of all levels for five years and I very much look forward to coaching you to attain your best fitness and overall health.
I received my PhD in Educational Psychology from Texas Tech University in 2010. Additionally, I hold a USAC Level 3 Coaching Certification and a Training Peaks Level I Certification. My coaching philosophy is that enjoyment and satisfaction in sport lead to optimal performance in both training and racing. When planning training for optimal performance, my approach is to maximize an athlete's enjoyment while applying appropriate amounts of challenge to a program to see performance gains. My coaching programs are built on empirically based exercise physiology principles and tailored to each client's individual goals. Your goals, both short term and long term, serve as the basis for the structure and content of your training plan. I tailor your training plan to put you on the path to achieving your goals and to fit with your lifestyle. I understand that many endurance athletes maintain busy family, work, and personal lives. Therefore, I ensure that your plan fits with each of the components of your life. My coaching programs are designed with both a macro- and micro-cycle structure, leading you through the appropriate phases of training stimulus, recovery, and adaptation. These training phases and the overall cycles are designed with your goal race(s) in mind to ensure that you are at peak physiological condition at the time of your goal event(s). Throughout the course of your training program, I will communicate with you frequently and work with you to analyze your progress.
