Coach Bio

Whether you are a beginner, novice, or expert, personalized coaching will help you reach your full potential. Every athlete has a predetermined genetic athletic potential. Regardless of your finishing time the goal of athletics should be to become the best you can become. The road to success is not a straight line. In the end good/smart training boils down to stress and rest. Each athlete needs a different amount to reach his or her potential and as your coach I will help you find the right mix.

Growing up in Michigan I enjoyed competing in a variety of sports. In high school my running started to take off and that became my primary sport. After H.S. I competed in cross-country/track at the University of Michigan from 1999-2004. After college I moved up to the marathon in the fall of 2004. From 2004 to 2012 I competed while representing Brooks in road races and various US National Championships from the mile to the marathon, with my best races happening around the ½ marathon distance. Highlights on the roads were two US Olympic Marathon Trials (2007, 2012) and a win at the Detroit Free-Press Marathon (2009). By 2012 my road times were down to 49:14 for 10-miles, 1:04:01 for a ½ marathon, 1:17:36 for 25k and 2:19:37 for the marathon. Running injuries started to take their toll in 2012 and I was cross-training a good deal so I decided to give triathlon a “tri”. I had done one triathlon in high school and one in college for fun, so I had a little experience. In the summer of 2012 I earned my professional/elite USAT triathlon status and competed for one year in triathlons up to the full ironman distance. By the time of my last triathlon in the fall of 2013 I had my full ironman time down to 10:09:56, 70.3 down to 4:07:09 and Olympic distance down to 1:55:41. Currently I enjoy staying active with running and cycling. When time allows I love squeezing in a gravel or CX bike race, going after a local Strava segment or other random adventure that test my limits.
